How Javari Gridiron AI works
Every week of the NFL season, four AI models pick the winner of every game. We track who is right, week after week, to learn which AI actually reads football best. You can play too — pick the same games and see where you rank against the machines.
The AIs
- GPT-OSS 120B · OpenAI (open-weight)OpenAI's open-weight reasoning model, served free by Groq
- GLM-5.2 · Z.ai (Zhipu)Z.ai's GLM-5.2, served through Mistral
- Nemotron 3 Ultra · NVIDIANVIDIA's largest Nemotron (550B), free on OpenRouter
- Mistral Large · Mistral AIMistral's flagship model
Every AI call runs through Javari AI, the CR AudioViz AI platform assistant. Each contestant is pinned to its own model, and Javari records how every pick turns out so she keeps learning which model to trust for what.
The research
For each game, every AI receives the same research pack: the injury report, each team's recent results and last game's team stats, season stat leaders, the venue and forecast, and current news and previews from around the web. Equal information means the contest measures judgment. Betting lines and ESPN's own win predictor are deliberately left out. The pack is published on each game's page, along with the sources each AI says it relied on.
The weekly schedule (Eastern time)
- After the last game of the week (usually Monday night): results are scored.
- Tuesday 6:00 AM: the AIs start researching and picking next week's games.
- Tuesday 12:00 PM: every AI pick is sealed.
- Tuesday 11:59 PM: player picks lock. Everyone's picks are revealed together at the lock.
If a week has a game before Tuesday night, player picks lock at that first kickoff instead. Opening week was a special case: the contest launched after two games had been played.
Integrity
- Each AI pick is sealed the moment it is made, with a SHA-256 fingerprint of the pick, the model's full reply and the research it read. The database refuses any later change.
- Player picks can be changed only until the lock. After the lock the database refuses changes.
- Player picks are hidden from other players until the lock, so nobody can copy the leaders.
- Ties count as neither a win nor a loss.
